Toyota is issuing a recall for over one million vehicles across its Toyota and Lexus brands, as well as the Subaru Solterra, from model years 2022 to 2026. The recall is due to a software error in the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system that can cause the rearview camera image to freeze or display a blank screen when the vehicle is in reverse.
The recall was announced on November 5, 2025, after documents were filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The issue is a safety risk as a malfunctioning rearview camera, which is mandatory in the U.S., can increase the likelihood of a crash, prompting urgent searches for affected models and remedy information.
The public is primarily concerned about the safety risk, as a non-working backup camera is an impediment to safe driving and violates federal safety standards. Owners of the affected vehicles are advised to visit their dealership for a free, simple software update to correct the flaw.
