Max B, born Charly Wingate, is an influential Harlem rapper known for his distinctive melodic delivery and popularizing the 'wavy' sound in hip-hop. He had been incarcerated since 2009 for a conviction related to a deadly 2006 robbery, but accepted a plea deal in 2016 that reduced his original 75-year sentence to aggravated manslaughter.
The search spiked because the rapper was officially released from prison on November 9, 2025. The date, which he had confirmed via social media months earlier, marked the end of his maximum sentence and the beginning of a five-year period of Mandatory Supervision.
His release was highly anticipated by the hip-hop community, with many fans and fellow artists, including French Montana, celebrating his homecoming. His return is seen as the start of a new chapter for the artist, whose unique style helped shape a generation of New York rap.
