The search term refers to the outcome of a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives on a funding bill designed to end the 43-day federal government shutdown, the longest in U.S. history. The legislation passed, sending the bill to the President for his signature to reopen the government.
The search spike was triggered by the House of Representatives’ vote late Wednesday, November 12, 2025, where the funding bill passed 222 to 209. The outcome immediately ended the political stalemate that had shut down federal agencies for over six weeks.
The vote was highly contentious and largely split along party lines. House Republican leaders celebrated the result, declaring the 'Democrat shutdown' over. Most House Democrats, led by Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, opposed the bill, arguing that the compromise failed to include a critical extension of expiring Affordable Care Act (ACA) health care tax credits. Six moderate Democrats ultimately voted with Republicans to pass the bill.
