The term refers to the volume of Americans traveling by air during the peak holiday period around Thanksgiving. For 2025, the FAA predicted the holiday rush would be the busiest Thanksgiving for air travel in 15 years, with Tuesday, November 25, expected to be the peak flying day.
Search interest spiked due to the projected record-breaking number of travelers (AAA estimated 6 million flying) over the holiday period (Nov. 25–Dec. 1, 2025). Travelers were checking expected crowds, flight status, and preparing for congestion at airports and on the roads.
Travelers were anticipating large crowds and congestion, with some concerned about potential flight disruptions due to recent staffing shortages and weather forecasts. Officials urged passengers to be respectful and courteous to airport and airline staff.
