Brian Cole Jr. is a 30-year-old Virginia man arrested and charged in connection with planting two pipe bombs near the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Republican National Committee (RNC) headquarters in Washington, D.C. on the night before the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Authorities stated the un-detonated devices could have been lethal.
The massive spike in searches occurred because Brian Cole Jr. was arrested on Thursday, December 4, 2025, after a four-year, high-profile investigation that had offered a $500,000 reward. Authorities credited a fresh review of evidence, including cell phone location data and matching components Cole purchased at hardware stores in 2019 and 2020, for solving the long-vexing case.
The public and government officials widely expressed relief and satisfaction that a suspect was finally in custody in the major case. Attorney General Pam Bondi stated, 'America is safer — D.C. is safer — because he's in custody.' The arrest was widely covered as the culmination of one of the largest ongoing investigations related to the events of January 6.
